What Has Changed in the Order and Chronology of Outbreak in Temporary Dentition?

 

Abstract

Introduction: In daily health care practice, it has been observed that there is a notable difference in the age at which the teeth erupt in patients, who do not comply with the established canons. This has sparked interest in the subject. Objective: to determine the changes in the order and chronology of the outbreak in the primary dentition at a national and international level.

Material and Methods: A search was carried out in 8 electronic databases of the systems (MEDLINE, PubMed, Hinari Cochrane, PubMed, SciELO, Scopus and Google Scholar). The articles reviewed were 59 articles of which 18 were selected for research.

Most relevant results: After the search, we found that the topic in general has been little addressed in primary dentition. Despite this, investigations were found in India, China, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. In Latin America, research that makes it possible to demonstrate ethnic differences in the eruption process is even scarcer.

Conclusions: With the passage of time, the trend is towards an advancement in the chronology of dental outbreaks at the global and national level, so they do not conform to the established canons; In addition, there are greater modifications in the chronology than in the eruption sequence. There are ethnic differences in the eruption process, conditioned by the fact that each individual and each population have their own characteristics. This is the reason why some countries have established the chronology and sequence of the outbreak typical of their child population.

Digital Impressions and Immediate Chairside Zirconia Crowns in Paediatric Dentistry: A Case Report

 

Abstract

Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is a public health problem of global proportions, which involves the early carious involvement of the primary maxillary incisors followed by the maxillary and mandibular first primary molars and the mandibular cuspids. For many years, the preformed paediatric metal crown (stainless steel crown (SSC)) was considered as a gold standard. However, to over disadvantages of SSC preformed pediatric zirconia crowns are introduced recently. Some drawbacks which limit the use of zirconia crowns are that it requires significantly more time to prepare the tooth for fitting the crown and its inability to manipulate its margin and adaptability. To overcome disadvantages of Preformed Zirconia Crowns Computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology came to rescue and made enormous improvements since its introduction. In this article, through a clinical case, we present the protocol and implementation of a paediatric zirconia crown prepared with digital workflow and its followup. the restoration performance is excellent exhibiting no chipping, no discoloration, and displays an excellent marginal fit and no plaque deposition.

Multimedia educativa “Odontopediatría” Educational multimedia “Pediatric Dentistry”

 

Abstract

An educational multimedia was made that is proposed as a means of teaching for the exercise in the classes of the subject Pediatric Dentistry of the Stingology career of the University of Medical Sciences of Guantanamo, which allows a better understanding of the contents related to the psychological management of children, prevention, traumatic injuries, endodontic treatment in temporary and permanent young teeth, surgical procedures and rehabilitation in the dental patient, periodontal disease and interceptive orthodontics in children and adolescents. The structure was formed as follows: it begins by showing the cover with a brief introduction of what is intended of the multimedia, then the contents to be addressed reflected in three questionnaire-like topics, with their e.g., ercicios, connected with hyperlinks between them and when the credits come out.

Oral Hairy Leukoplakia as Prediction Oral Lesion for HIV Disease : A Review Article

 

Abstract

Introduction: Oral Hairy Leukoplakia (OHL) is a hyperplastic mucocutaneous epithelial cell disease, induced by Epstein Barr virus (EBV). The clinical appearance of OHL is as white, corrugated, painless, and asymptomatic lesion, as a patch that cannot be removed by scrapping, located often bilaterally on lateral borders of the tongue. The prevalence of OHL was reported to be 20% in asymptomatic HIV infection in the United States to 36% with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Worldwide 2006, the prevalence of OHL in Brazil was 28,8%, also reported a prevalence of 38.8% and 21,8% in northern and southern USA.

Discussion: Oral hairy leukoplakia is a specific lesion in HIV infection caused by Epstein Barr virus, and has been reported in over more than 28% patients and is a sign of disease progression. OHL appear clinically as an asymptomatic, white, or grayish white, well demarcated plaque with corrugated texture [1]. The “hairy” surface varies in size from a few millimeters to extensive lingual and oral mucosal involvement. These lesion typically occurs on the lateral tongue but may also appear on the ventral and dorsal surface of the tongue, and more rarely, on the buccal mucosa.

Conclusion: The establishment of Oral Hairy Leukoplakia as a diagnosis have a diagnostic value for HIV infection. Oral manifestations are the earliest and most important indicators of HIV infection. OHL is often wrongly diagnosed and thus proper treatment is delayed. The present of OHL in the absence of known cause of immunosuppression strongly suggest HIV infection. In the early diagnosis of OHL, health care provider must be cautious and seek further examination to establish HIV infection.

Treponema Infections and Orofacial Involvement

 

Abstract

Teeth, gum, and palate may be affected by different congenital and acquired infections caused by Treponema spp. These are somewhat rarely found now but still very important to know for diagnostic as well as epidemiological purposes.
