Lupine Publishers | Do Highly Aggressive Bacteria Cause Dental Caries in Some Children?

Lupine Publishers | Journal of Dental and oral health journals impact factor

Short Communication

Perhaps the question that many pediatric dentists may have is whether a group of bacteria play an important role in the development of dental caries in children. The results of the new research that was carried out at Umea University in Sweden, can answer this question. Researchers at Umea University discovered a new issue in relation to cariogenic different types of Streptococcus Mutans bacteria. They also investigated the adhesion performance of bacteria on children teeth with common caries and increased risk of dental caries. The results of the study, published in the EBio Medicine Journal, could lead to the development of a better way to identify high-risk patients and treat their caries. Dental caries is one of the diseases of the lifestyle, often due to poor oral and dental health and nutritional habits, which results in decreasing the level of acidic pH in the mouth [1-3]. The more likely we will see the development of dental caries if the teeth are exposed to a low salivary pH in a long period of time [4]. Low PH levels have a harmful effect on enamel; increases the growth of acid-producing bacteria, such as Streptococcus Mutans [5-8]. In this five-year study, the saliva of a large number of children was analyzed, and dental health care of these children was supervised. The researchers proved that high-risk children have more invasive types of cariogenic bacteria, and the adherence of these bacteria makes them more aggressive and more susceptible to survival. However, the results of this study showed that in some high-risk children at high risk of rot, there are certain types of highly invasive bacteria, S Mutans, which can cause caries irrespective of lifestyle. These invasive strains have unique sticky proteins called SpaP and Cnm, which increase the ability of the bacteria to survive in the antibacterial saliva of the mouth. One out of five Swedish children has such a dangerous strain and is at high risk for dental caries. These children do not respond to traditional caries prevention or treatment, and their lifestyle variables cannot predict the risk of caries [8]. Chronic dental caries and loose teeth are also risk factors for systemic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease [9,10]. Overall, 70% of tooth loss is due to tooth decay [11,12]. This article explains how up to half of the highrisk children are threatened by highly invasive types of S. Mutans.
These species can also increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and other systemic diseases in the future. Highly aggressive types also differ in terms of adhesion performance. Through biochemical studies, researchers discovered the association between the binding of SpaP and Cnm proteins and their adherence to saliva and DMBT1 protein in saliva [8]. They also showed that higher binding ability has led to an increase in dental caries over a five-year study period. In the end, to conclude this article, Dr. Stromberg believes other high-risk children have a genetic defect in their salivary receptors for bacteria, and the damaged genes may include the same genes that are involved in autoimmune diseases. But it is still important to emphasize that caries is affected by oral and dental health habits in many low to moderate risk people [8]. On the other hand, from new information on the identified types of bacteria, and their manner to start tooth decay, it can be used to improve dental care. Furthermore, the presence of these bacteria can be applied as biological markers for the early detection of high-risk patients. Moreover, their adhesion performance also can be considered as new targets for treatments [8].

Effect of Changes in the Breathing Mode on Dental Management of Pediatric Patient by Luciana de Barros Correia Fontes in IPDOAJ - Lupinepublishers

We live the reality of global climate change, with increasing amount of environmental pollutants and worsening lung and respiratory diseases. In this context, children and the elderly represent groups with greater risk and vulnerability of negative impact on quality of life. There is still no an efficient control of this population. Considering, more specifically, the dental care for children patients, there are risk factors that may influence the management and the response of this target population, who present changes in breathing pattern.

Effects of Fluoridated and Non- Fluoridated BleachingAgents on Bovine Surface Enamel by Prashant Babaji in IPDOAJ - Lupinepublishers

In the modern era, aesthetic dentistry is becoming famous. The demand of tooth bleaching is increasing day by day and it has become the treatment of choice for tooth discoloration. If there is deposition of chromatogenic material into dentin and enamel during the tooth development stage or after eruption, it leads to intrinsic tooth discoloration [1]. Among various bleaching techniques for intrinsic tooth discoloration, vital and non-vital bleaching techniques are common one.

To evaluate and compare the cleaning ability between two, rotary shaper and manual K-files in primary molar root canals. Twenty extracted maxillary and mandibular primary molars and 10 mm length were cleaned in water and stored in 0.5% sodium hypochlorite for 1 week. Caries excavation was done. Coronal access was made. After irrigation of the root canal with normal saline, a K-file with a compatible diameter was introduced into the root canal and the canal length was determined. A K-file size #15 was introduced into the root canal and 1 ml Indian ink was injected into the orifice. The roots were then randomly divided into 2 groups.

Non-Hodgkings Lymphoma by Effiong Edet Bassey in IPDOAJ - Lupinepublishers

Lymphoma is the general term for cancers that develop in the lymphatic system. Lymphoma originates in developing lymphocytes (B-cells and T-cells), which have undergone a malignant change. They multiply without any proper order, forming tumors, which are collections of cancer cells. These tumors cause swelling in the lymph nodes and other parts of the body. Over time, malignant lymphocytes (called lymphoma cells) crowd out normal lymphocytes and eventually the immune system becomes weakened and can no longer function properly.

White and beautiful pearls that appear for the first time in the sixth month on the lower gingiva are the primary teeth that erupt after one another until the age of two. These teeth should remain in the mouth without any problem until the eruption of the permanent teeth so that have the proper function. Unfortunately, many children lose their teeth much sooner than the time they should naturally fall.

Proposal of dental attention model for childrenwith disabilities in Ecuador by Villavicencio Caparo Ebingen in Interventions in Pediatric Dentistry Open Access Journal - Lupinepublishers

Children with disabilities are a vulnerable group that needs special attention and care in dentistry (because of physical, developmental, mental, sensory, behavioral, cognitive or emotional impairment). It is known that disability generates different levels of risk for oral diseases. Ecuador is a country that is at the forefront of global care for people with disabilities, the Catholic University of Cuenca-Ecuador, has proposed an early intervention model (based on evidence) to the control of caries lesions in these patients, through a school based intervention developed at ADINEA school in the same city.

Focal Fibrous Hyperplasia: A Rare Case Report and Literature Review (IPDOAJ) - Lupinepublishers

Intra-oral fibrous type soft tissue overgrowth is common in oral cavity. It can be either benign or neoplastic lesions. Nonneoplastic type of reactive lesion seen in the oral cavity is caused by the chronic irritation. Focal fibrous hyperplasia is one such lesion which is seen in the line of occlusion. Focal fibrous hyperplasia is also known as irritational fibroma or traumatic fibroma. Proper oral hygiene, removal of etiologic factors and conservative excision will prevent the focal fibrous hyperplasia and its recurrence. Proper diagnosis, management and follow up should be done in these cases.

Epidemiology and Control of Lassa fever (IPDOAJ) - Lupinepublishers

The Lassa Virus (an Arenavirus) is found in West Africa, where it sometimes a severe hemorrhage illness called Lassa fever. The antivirus drug ribavirin is effective, but only if administered early in the course of illness. Because of its expense, need for intravenous administration, potential toxicity, and teratogenicity, empiric therapy with ribavirin is undesirable.

Mesiodens: A Case Report and Literature Review (IPDOAJ) - Lupine publishers

Supernumerary teeth are considered to be one of the most significant dental anomalies affecting the primary and early mixed dentition and may cause a variety of pathological disturbances to the developing permanent dentition and also resulting in poor dental and facial esthetics. Mesiodens are the erupted or unerupted extra tooth in the midline of maxilla, along with normal teeth (between the central incisors). Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are necessary for prevention of deleterious effects of mesiodenson dentoalveolar structures. The aim of this case report is to share knowledge about management of mesiodens which might assist the clinician in decision-making.

Dental Complications of Sucking Thumbs (IPDOAJ) - Lupinepublishers

Putting a finger in the mouth and sucking it is the normal habit of all children that will not leave for many years. Sucking a thumb is a natural reaction in children that may be beneficial or harmful. Sucking a thumb or other fingers and sucking a pacifier or other objects gives a sense of safety or joy to the infants; and helps them to better understand the world around themselves. Behavioral and mood changes, reactions to family differences and lack of affection are the most important factors in sucking fingers in children. Significant complications such as speech impairment, irregularities in teeth, malocclusion, intra-oral ulcers, and wounds and scars on the thumbs can occur after long sucking of the fingers. With sucking, young children feel more relaxed and fall asleep. Most children leave this harmless habit before the age of two without any worries or interventions but the sucking habit in some children is so severe or repeated that it becomes a dental and social problem.

Surgical Treatment of Natal Teeth from Standpoint of Haemorrhage Control, Infection Prevention and Application on Anaesthetics (IPDOAJ) - Lupinepublishers

Most babies, new-borns, get their first tooth between 5 and 8 months of age. The first teeth that poke through the gums are the central incisors, which are located on the bottom front. While most infants get their first teeth months after birth, some babies are born with one or more teeth. These are called natal teeth. Natal teeth are relatively rare. Most studies however give an incidence between 1 in 2000 to 1 in 3500 live births. The incidence probably varies between different racial groups, with some American Indian tribes reported to commonly present with natal teeth. Statistical significance between regions is yet to be shown.  Natal teeth are said to be three times more common than neonatal teeth.
